Job Offer (12/15)

I passed the assessment test and got a job offer!  I will be working part-time from home as a Cantonese interpreter.  It's a great job since I can stay home, work and help others.... how cool is that?  I am totally excited about this job!

Updates on Jady (12/16)

I finally got a call from the hematologist that Jady is confirmed of Type I von Willebrand disease.  There is a lot of information on  the internet and it's assuring that her case can be in control with proper treatment.  She will  need to check with the Dr. next week for a DDAVP challenge test to see if she response to the medication.  I hope this is the last time she needs to be poked.  My heart hurts every time she cries when she had her blood drawn.

   

How Am I Doing? (Dec 12-15)

It's been a stressful and busy week with phone interviews and practice sessions.  I will be working from home as an interpret.  I've got a confirmation for this job yet, and I would be really disappointed if I don't get it!  Johnny and Evan suggest that I shouldn't work.  

Another Driver in the House!

Yeah!  Jeannie passed the driving test today and she can now drive herself to work, to school and to seminary!

I know this is a great news, but somehow I have mix feelings about it.  Since when my baby turn 17?? The fact that she is able to drive kind of bothers me.  Not so much about her driving, but the idea that she doesn't need me anymore really kills me. I really can't see myself sending her off to college!  :(

Jady had two heavy nose bleeding episodes. I took the bag of disguisting bloody tissues to the Dr.and discussed with him how serious of her issue is. The pediatrican was convinced and ordered a lab test for her right away. The results came back last Thur that apparently my child has von Willebrand disease.... a common bleeding disorder. I am just grateful to the Lord that it's not Leukemia. Jady is scheduled to see a hematologist on Dec 5, and I pray that nothing is serious!

What Have We Been Doing- Sept 2011?

Sept :

Kids are back to school and the soccer season starts for both Jeannie and Evan.  Thank goodness we only have two playing this season, but I often wonder how in the world people have time running their kids around with games and activities.  I am happy that they both are done by last week, just can't wait to do something fun with the kids before the winter!

Johnny and I also tried to help with Jeannie's college application.  It's been a pain since she doesn't like the way we corrected her essays.  I finally realized that I am the least likable person to work with after many, many argument with my teenager, and I passed the ball the her dad.  It's not the most pleasant experience we had, but I am glad that it's over!  She finally submitted everything last Sunday and got the acceptance letter through email from BYU-Idaho yesterday! Yeah!!!  Something I did not realize until last night was that my motives and stress over her application actually stem from the fear of my child not being accepted by any church college, and how much I don't want her attending the local ones.  It was such a relief as I heard the good news.  Now, we are waiting to hear from BYU-Hawaii and BYU-Provo!

Hurricane, Tornado and Power Outage!

It's been an interesting week with earthquake, tornado, hurricane and two days of power outage.  My heart is full of gratitude of no trees fell on my property and no flooding in the basement.  The church has taught us to be prepared at all times and we were definitely put into a test this past week.  We were glad that we adhered to the guidance by our beloved prophet.  At a conference talk by President Hinckley in 2005 titled, "If ye are prepared ye shall not fear!"  He said, " we have built grain storage and storehouses and stocked them with the necessities of life in the event of a disaster.  But the best storehouse is the family storeroom.... our people for three-quarters of a century have been counseled and encouraged to make such preparation as will assure survival should a calamity come."

We felt calm when the hurricane hit, and we slept through the night when there was a tornado (we didn't even know there was a tornado warning until the next day).  Though we lost power for two days, but we had a good time without all the electronics.  The good thing about this is that I was "forced" to go to bed early (because of no power), woke up before noon and felt refreshed the next day.  It just feels great!

A Tornado Watch is in effect for Philadelphia, the surrounding suburbs, the Lehigh Valley and Central and North Jersey until 8 p.m. And a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 10 p.m. in Delaware and South Jersey.

The extreme heat played a role in the Watches as temps reach 96 in Philly with a heat index of 101.

There were reports of large hail falling mid afternoon in Allentown, Bethlehem and Upper Makefield Bucks County.

Storms started developing across the northern suburbs around 3 p.m. and slowly moved south over the next few hours.

There could be the potential for these storms to become severe and rotate. Gusty winds and possibly an isolated tornado are possible as the storms move through parts of the area Wednesday afternoon.

If a Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warning is issued for your area seek shelter immediately. Do not go outside to look for the storm. Stay away from windows and go to the interior of your home on the lowest level.

Earthquake Experience

We had encountered our first earthquake experience yesterday.  It started around 2:00pm and lasted about 30 seconds.  I was in the kitchen making some pesto sauce when the house started shaking.  My first thought was the kids jumping upstairs, but when I found out it wasn't them; then came my second thought.  It was either the train or the geothermo.  When all signs/reasons were ruled out, I went upstairs and tried to grabbed the kids to the basement and hide.  But then, everything stopped!  I called Johnny right away since he had a meeting  in NJ.  However, the phone line did not get through for quite some time.  So, I started emailing him.  Thank goodness, he returned my email at 2:19pm and he was all good!  He was actually giving a presentation to the clients when it happened!  :)

This was quite an experience for us.  As I looked back, nothing wasn't important except my family .  The weather has been a little unexpected lately with thunderstorms and rain.  We don't know enough about the mother nature, but being prepared... having food and water storage can ease some of the worries!

Busy Doing Nothing...

Monday: Called and scheduled a bunch appointments: Jeannie's well check, pest control, bank, and state inspection and oil change for my car.  

Tues: Went to the open house at Templxx U. with Jeannie.  It was a little rainny and my kid was grumpy.  bad combination.... She has no interest of attending that school but we wanted her to have an experience of what's like to be studying at a traditional U. rather than a church college.  For a while I was upset because of her attitude and I walked alone until she caught up with me.  At least, she told me now that she had the confirmation that BYX is her first priority!  Yeah!  The same evening, Johnny and I went with the missionaries for a discussion.  The investigator was a very nice lady and she showed up to church today!  That makes me feel good!

Wed: Took the car to the shop for an inspection.  The guy said the front brake pads were really worn out.   I am glad to have them fixed since Jeannie is practicing driving, and I don't want any accident happened to her.  Then went to pick up Jeannie and the Gillaxxx girls from the movie theater.  We then drove to the park right where Johnny and Evan were fishing.  We picnic and had a great time.  

Thursday: Nothing much on Thurs. 

Fri: Had the Gomez family over for lunch.  We were glad to see their family, but sad to see what they are going through.  The husband lost his job a week after they moved to VA.  I couldn't believe what I heard when she told me.  Fortunately, they are faithful and positive about the situation.  Sometimes I wondered what I would do if I were in their position.  I hope that the Lord has a better plan for them. 

Sat: Went to the beach with the same families and a few others.  It was nice and sunny (probably the only day   without the thunderstorm!)  Came home and had a steak dinner which I marinated the night before. 

Another Busy Week...

Not much happened this week....

Jeannie: practiced some more driving and had driven twice from the church to home this week.  I am still a little nervous when she drive even though she is improving...  I guess it's a mom thing!

Johnny: went to NC for a client's meeting and he also took Evan fishing twice.  No fish (I am perfectly fine since it's not where they should be fishing!) but they had a lot of fun!

Me: Song practice and dinner with Mary and Liz...  did not play for them today since we only practiced the song once and I sub. playing for the sacrament for Sister Hansen on Sunday.

Fri: We went to the beach with the Gillaxxx, Rogexxx, and Smalxxxx, then Lansdale with Johnny for his badminton game and groceries.  It was such a nice day to be at the beach and it's always good to hang out with friends.  Jady would love to go back and we will see how it goes this Sat!

Sent a meal to Michelle G. after her surgery.  I am glad that she is recovering well.  The same night, we had the Muldowxx, Veaxx, and Josepxxx for an ice-cream social.  The kids played really well and the adults had a great time.

Interesting week on the market.... 400-500 swing everyday!

Aug 1 - Aug 6

Relaxing week....

The kids are done with their camps and we had enjoyed their moments at home.  Jeannie had finished her 3 days peer mediation training and is gradually recovering from her sickness (induced by all the sleepless nights while at camps and youth conference).  Took Jeannie out to practice her driving three times this week and I was terrified!  My heart raced as she stopped too close to the car in front, and when she went around cars and people without checking into the cars from the opposite direction.... I thought we were going to have a head collision.

Evan has been great camper this week.  He went swimming twice at our neighbors pool, went fishing with the scouts and did quite a bit of reading...  :)  It's about time to finish his summer reading before school starts!

Jady did not do much and she slept past 10:30am every day!  :D  She's been fun and was trying to help me take off the leaves from the rosemary plant.

I spent a lot of time making bags from my scrap fabric.... well I put mine favorite bag pack in bleach and that's  why I ended up making all sorts of bags.  Harvest all my basil and herbs and spent many, many hours processing and storing them for winter use.

Johnny's work is kind of slow for the summer and he had spent a lot of time with the kids... we went out to Minadxx last Friday afternoon and he and Evan went to play badminton afterwards.

Still have a list of things I would like to do before the summer is over:

1) Declutter..... go around the house and starts with a small area everyday!
2) Paint the trims and closet doors at the kids' bedrooms.... and of course the walls (might have to wait until school starts since the kids don't like me painting their rooms)
3) Call the dentist, Jeannie's Dr. visit, oil change appointment
4) Finish the painting projects for the small glasses
5) Process album books.... at least get done with the trip to Miami!

Fast Sunday

It was a nice fast and testimony meeting today.  Sister Bloxx testimony reminds me so much of her faith and Christ like love.  She was abandoned by her dad while she was young, and yet she took care of him when he was diagnosed with terminal illness.  I could never imagine myself being able to forgive if I were her.  She said something stood out in my mind.  She said she has learned to love... she was released from her pain after she learned to forgive her dad.  Sometimes people don't even know that they had offended us when we hold grudges again them; so releasing ourselves, and forgiving others will free our souls and improve the harmony within us.  I love her... she is so true and honest.

On the other hand, I also learned from the other sister (in a negative way) that I should stop being a hypocrite and be true to myself.  If my thoughts are not coincides with my action and behavior, then I should never pretend who and what I am.  Chinese has the same proverbs: when a person's mouth doesn't match his/her heart or words and action don't match.  It really bothers me when people say they love so and so, and doesn't really put into action.  I should not judge, I really shouldn't because I had been in situation that I was not honest to myself and I struggled.  There are many times that I want to please people or try to avoid conflicts and end up doing something that I am not happy about.  I've been a hypocrite and I realized how much I did not like it.  It's time to change.... be honest to myself and others.        

*****  My dear visiting teacher, Michele E and her family showed up in the chapel.  It's such a surprise and I just love seeing her and miss all the chatting with her.  She has been a sweet heart and will always has a special place in my heart!!!!

Busy Week....

It was a really busy week last week.  My v.t. companion, Angela had a week to pack and move toVirgina; and Tammy, the sister whom we visit also moved on the same day.  I've been helping with packing, babysitting and fixing meals.  On top of that, I also volunteered to drive the youth the youth conference and was invited to a sister's birthday luncheon afterwards.  I am totally exhausted by the end of the day.  It's nice to  serve, but I also felt my family has been neglected.  Time to spend some time with them....

I am also sad that I've lost two my good friends in the ward, really, really sad!  :(

Kids Comments After Camps

Anyway, this is what I got from the kids after scout camp/yw camp, SOAR and youth conference.  Evan agreed that we should not take things for granted such as food.   He also earned two merit badges: swimming and study of bugs.  Johnny and I were totally surprised that he passed the swimming badge since he literally learned to swim the day before he went on camping.  As for Jeannie, she loves the SOAR camp.  She met lots of  friends and had tons of fun.  She said the food at BYU is great and she likes the environment a alot.  Hopefully, she will be able to get her personal statement written before school started!  This girl seems to grow more mature by the many things she told me about her experience from the different camps.

On Their Way Home...

It's been a week since Evan and Jeannie are gone.  Johnny is on his way home with Evan and Jeannie is checking out the BYU campus (per phone conversation).  I can't wait to see them home.... it's been such a long week. I  hope Evan won't get any tick bites, lice or flees!  Johnny and I have learned the lesson to keep their bags in a sealed trash bag and leave it inside the car under the sun for a good couple of hours every time our kids come home from camp.  Oh... there they are.  Got to get the washer ready!  :D

 

Life Without My Kids

It's a little tough to not think of the kids when they are not around.  Evan left to the scout camp last Sat. and Jeannie left to Utah Sunday morning.  Because Johnny needs to give a talk in the other ward, I went to church with Jady.  Yeah, first time ever.  I felt a little odd without the kids; and to be very honest, I don't like that feeling at all.  

I found myself wondering what they are doing throughout the day, and I hope that they are having fun.  Since my kids love my cooking, so I attempted to make "cheung fan" last night.  They turned out ok, but I would like to make a few other dim sum when they are home by the end of the week.  Wonder why Jeannie still hasn't called back...

I love the talk from Lizzy and Donna last Sunday on love and service:  

1) "Thy shall love thy neighbors as thyself."  We cannot develop the compassion to love others if we don't see the Christlike love from us within.

2)  Love is the essence of life, and TIME spells Love.  Donna quote from President Uchtdorf, "In family relationships love is really spelled t-i-m-e, time. Whether family members get together for scheduled outings, sharing interests, or serving others, these gatherings strengthen relationships that can be eternal."  So, make time for the family should be our first priority.  

3)  Love unconditionally as Christ does.  (I found myself getting upset with the kids when they did something wrong, but I also forget how the Lord forgives me when I was bad - so love unconditionally in all circumstances)      

 

    

Back to PA

We are back from Miami.  While Johnny was at the work conference, me and the kids tour around the city of Miami and south beach.  It was sunny and humid, but we had a lot of fun.  The highlight of the trip was our surprise to the kids of a cruise vacation.  We were on a cruise for three days and it took us to the Stirrup Cay Island and the Bahamas.  The food was good and we probably ate too much.  The beaches at both locations were beautiful and it reminds me of Hawaii.  Now I kept thinking why we left Hawaii in the first place??  :)

Bahamas was beautiful and we had a local tour guide taking us around.  We saw a few historical sights, the Atlantis, and the city of Nassau.  The Atlantis was beautiful and so as the million dollar homes around it.  But what left me the most was the poor neighborhood not too far away from the riches.  There were beat up houses with broken windows, no AC; kids hanging out at the park playing basketball; trash, broken parts of cars, junks in every corner....  it was such a big contrast.

I want to kids to know how fortunate they are; and that they should have no reason to complaint about life when seeing the less fortunate people struggle in life.  

I felt the same way with downtown Miami.  It was a beautiful city, but I've never seen so many homeless people in my life.  They were everywhere, at the metro, bus terminal/stations and even at the beach!  I couldn't believe what I saw.  It was an eye opening experience.

This trip left me with questions of what we can help to balance our resources, and being an advocate of self-reliance.  There are many hard working families out there living below the poverty level.  We need to pay them a reasonable amount for the job they performed so that they can in turn sustain their families.  I strongly believe that the church has well prepared us to be responsible citizens.  We need to lead by example, to work  hard and provide for our families; to always prepare and save for the rainy days.   

  

Evan From Sister McCarxxx

Sister Mc: Your son is so sweet.... Did he tell you what he did?
Me: No.  What did he do?
Sister Mc: Evan came to talk to my grandchildren, James and Jane this morning.  He talked to James, "Do you remember what I said last Sunday?  I told you I would bring you a toy if you took Jane to church."  And so, Evan presented a stuff animal from his back and gave James a monkey.  Then Evan turned to Jane, "I am sorry that you were sick, but I am glad that you make it to church today!"  So, he showed his other hand to Jane and gave her a little stuff animal - a chick.
Sister Mc: Did you ask him to do it?
Me: No.  I am sorry that I didn't even know that Jane was not at church last week.
Sister Mc: Oh, he did it all by himself!!!  Wow.... I've never seen any kid like that before.  He is so sweet and kind and you should be very proud of him!

I do.. I do... very proud of Evan and Jeannie too.  They both had been sweet to include people in their lives.  I've heard many good things from people about my son as well as my daughter and I am so proud of them.

Our family will never forget 6/19/2011.  Other than the special Father's day, it's also our son, Evan's 12th year old birthday!

Evan has looked forward to this day for awhile.  A few months ago, he told me that he did not quite enjoy being in the Primary anymore before he was the oldest; and he also thinks the youth activities are more fun.  But most importantly, he was excited to hold the priesthood to pass the sacrament.  I am so glad that Johnny had prepared him well.... talking to Evan about the things pertaining to the priesthood.  

During the 3rd hour that day, Johnny gathered me and Jeannie to witness this special event.  Johnny conferred the priesthood key to Evan, and every leaders in the YM presidency including bishop was there to bless our son.  It was sacred and peaceful!

I hope Evan will always remember this day and to hold his priesthood worthily so that he can in turn bless others when in need.  Remember to always stay in the right path, son!      

Child Like Character

I felt so guilty one day after Jady spills and spit out her drinks all over the floor and clothes twice on the same day.  I totally lost it and hit her little hands twice.  I felt so terrible after the clean up.  So, I took her in and told her that mommy was sorry .  I was even more ashamed of what I did as she said, "It's okay, mommy!"  My heart melted and I reassured her that it's not okay for mommy or anyone to hit, and mommy will not do it again.  

Kids have a big heart to forgive and I need to learn to be more like them.  As the scripture says,

“And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 18:2–4).

Jun 6-8

Johnny was in LA for a few days between Jun 4 to 8 and I was home with the kids until he came home on 6/8 to celebrate our 19th anniversary!  It's hard to believe that we've been together for 19 years!!!  :D  We do have our moments in lives, but the journey has been wonderful with the Lord's help.  

We are saving money for our FL vacation, so we did not do much to celebrate.  We went to the "picnic" dinner with the gardening club instead.  The people were so nice and sweet.  Most of them are women in their 70s and 80s, and some even has been a member of the club for over 20 years!  Their involved their husbands to be part of the group, and they are very friendly, loving and appreciative.  The club not only offer educational presentations, but also services to the community and fundraiser for scholars.  It's such a wonderful group to be with.  

My observation is that people tend to look younger as they stay active.  Being with them brings the peace and kindness within me.  They do make a difference! 

May 21: Jeannie's Driving Permit

Congratulations Jeannie on getting your driving permit...  A step closer to independence!

Mom still thinks it's a bit too early to drive, but we trust you and know that you are a safe and responsible driver!   Don't fail your vision test again, or else you will be sent to the optometrist like last time!  :D

Fireside with Sister Beck

Sister Beck from the General authority came to visit our stake last week; so Johnny and I had a chance to visit her at the special fireside.  She is so sweet, so awesome and so spiritual!  We even had the opportunity to chat with her for a little bit after the fireside.  I felt great around her presence!!!

Here are a few things that I learned from her that evening:

Lesson 1: All answers pertaining our life can be found in the scriptures.

It was impressive to me how Sister Beck answers all questions from the audience using her scriptures.  The scriptures taught us true principals.  There is power in it; and it will be beneficial to our lives if we study it everyday.  

Lesson 2: Promise to study daily.

Sister Beck shared with us that some point in her life, she made a promised to the Lord that she would "spend some time reading the scripture everyday".  At first, I thought it would be a challenge for me.  But then, she said that some days we might read 5 mins, other days we read a few chapters, or at times might be even 5 verses... but the goal is to  read it everyday.  

Lesson 3: Maintaining the spirit while raising our children..... again through the companionship of the holy spirit.  

One of her excellent talks in 2007 tilted "Mothers Who Know" gives a full insight on the role of motherhood in our days.

It was a blessing to be able to attend the meeting and to realize that the leaders from the general authority lives just like we are and struggle similar issue like we all do!  

BYU Soar camp!

Yet another great news!!!!  Jeannie made it to the BYU soar camp for this summer.  I seriously thought she wouldn't make it since there were 500 applicants, and only 300 got selected.  She will have a chance to check out the school, and a life experience of living on campus.  It will be good...

Judge not, that ye be not judged!

Good news... the lady who was involved in the car accident survived!!!  According to the insurance agent, the woman's insulin level was low when she was driving.  She first ran into Johnny's car, then crashed to a wall sign and broke a few ribs and bones as a result.  She's been discharged!!!  


This is such a relief.  I am happy that she is alive!  Anyhow... the lesson that I learn here found in Matthew 7:1-2. 


"Judge not, that ye be not judged.  For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged; and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." 


Before the investigation, Johnny and I both thought the woman was on drug or alcohol, and we agreed on the consequence of causing her life was just too big to imagine.  However, we had a total different view on this matter ever since we found out the cause of the accident was due to her illness.  We have no right to judge whether it was under influence or not.  A life is a life, and she deserves to live. 


I am thankful to learn such an important principal again!   

Accident!

Johnny came home last night and told me that he was involved in a car accident.  He was calm when he said it, and the fact that he went and played badminton afterwards sent me an idea that the accident was not a major one.  Then I started questioning about if he was ok, how it happened and whether the other driver was alright.... and to my surprise.  He said, "I hope she survive!"  My heart sank when he said that.  Why? What do you mean?  Are you serious?  Are there other cars involved?  I asked a bunch of questions and then Johnny took out his blackberry and showed me a picture of the other driver's car.  I couldn't believe my eyes.  That was a scary scene.

According to Johnny, the lady hit him on the side door behind the driver's seat.  As he was pulling over to the side, this lady accelerated her car and started driving on the opposite lane.  The cars on the opposite direction  slowed down.  Not soon after, the car ran into a big piece of rock and bounced back off to the street.  Two witnesses went and pulled the lady out of her car while Johnny pulled over.  Within minutes, the firetruck and ambulance arrived; so Johnny never got a chance to see the lady.  He and several witnesses gave a detailed report to the police and Johnny drove himself to the Y afterwards.  We both felt terrible for what happened, and we hope and pray that she made it through!  

I am just so grateful for the Lord for watching over my husband and in preserving his life!  Life is too fragile and we must learn to fully appreciate it everyday!

There's a slight discrepancy I found from the news.  Johnny's car was damaged on the side, but not the rear bumper as described.

Police respond to accident on Route 63

Police responded to the scene of a two-vehicle accident on Welsh Road in Montgomery Township on Friday afternoon.

According to police at the scene, the accident occured when a North Wales woman was traveling west on Route 63 in a 2002 Mercedes Benz collided with a 2007 Mercedes Benz with a lone male driver, clipping his rear bumper. The 2002 Mercedes Benz proceeded off the road, over a curb and struck a wall and sign at 1361 Welsh Rd. The woman was assisted out of her smoking vehicle by other motorists at the scene and transported to Abington Hospital with undisclosed injuries. The Fire Department of Montgomery Township,VMSC as well as Montgomery Township Police responded to the scene. The accident is still under investigation.

Sister Rothxxx told me a funny story about Jady last Sunday.

Sister Rothxx: What is the name of the hill where Nephi's record was burried?
My 4-yr old raised her little hand and said, "My sandals match my dress!"

May 2 - May 7

• finally finished cleaning up and mulching the garden
• put more summer bulbs in the other flower bed
• Caesar came fix the roof ... will have to check again when it rains
• made meals and visited two church members with cancer
• fixed  Jeannie's prom dress to meet the standard; it was a strapless dress, but I made cap sleeves with a similar color fabric, and top it with a sheer fabric.  it looks fabulous
• got a bridal shower gift for Sharlene R
• got a birthday gift to Rachel G. (Jady's friend)
• went to the gardening community meeting, and volunteered (bake goods) and help at the plant table
